Report an Airbnb Host Scammer - Tips for Guests

We often hear about hosts being scammed by guests on Airbnb, however there are instances where hosts are trying to take advantage of unsuspecting guests. There are a few things to consider when booking an Airbnb as a guest.

1. Take photos and videos

Always take pictures before and after your stay.

As a host, I value transparency, so I appreciate it when guests take photos of my property before their stay. This simple step not only shows that they're aware of the potential risks and consequences if something goes wrong, but also demonstrates that they have good intentions - a mindset that helps resolve any issues that may arise during their visit.

2. Don't ignore issues

If you notice something is not right, or broken with the listing, don't assume it will magically fix itself and that you won't be blamed.

Sometimes in this business things get broken. Honest hosts understand this and want to work it out. Being honest about the situation is best as well as documenting, especially if it was not your fault.

3. Never cancel a booking when asked to do so by a host, unless the reason is because you want to cancel

The reason for this, is because as a guest you risk forfeiting your hard earned cash, depending on when you cancel.  Conversely host risk losing free money depending on when the booking took place an the cancellation policy in place.

4. Report a Host Scammer

If you believe you have been scammed first and foremost report it to Airbnb. Also, you can report the scam here on directbnb.rentals as well. We want to know if someone potential in our network is a bad actor.
